![]() ![]() Feingold recognized by National Taxpayers Union as only Senator with a spending-cut agenda Feingold Senate Committee Press Release U.S. Senator Russ Feingold was recognized yesterday by the National Taxpayers Union as the only Senator to have a budget that would cut federal spending. The National Taxpayers Union is a non-partisan organization that analyzes spending proposals in Congress. Their annual report, BillTally, ranks members of Congress whose agenda calls for reduced federal spending. This year's report from the National Taxpayers Union marks two historic firsts: -- The first time that the Senator whose budget reduces federal spending the most is a Democrat. -- The first time that the U.S. Senate had only one member, Senator Feingold, whose budget reduces federal spending. "I am honored by the recognition from the National Taxpayers Union for my work to promote fiscal responsibility," Senator Feingold said. "I was first elected to the U.S. Senate because of my dedication to keeping the federal budget in check. Since then, I have worked to bring Wisconsin's values of fiscal responsibility and accountability to Washington." "I believe that fiscal responsibility is a basic responsibility of the federal government, and I will continue to work hard to make sure that every dollar of taxpayers' money is spent wisely."
