Russ fights for quality and affordable health care for families and businesses:
Russ has proposed a plan for an American-style health care system to guarantee
all Americans health care at least as good as members of Congress get, and a measure to force Congress to take up the issue.
This proposal builds on his strong record on health care,
which includes introducing legislation to get Wisconsin's fair share of federal Medicare dollars and to
help small businesses provide quality health care for their employees.
He has also taken the lead on fixing the flawed Medicare bill to get seniors a
meaningful prescription drug benefit.
Russ stands up for Wisconsin jobs from being lost to unfair foreign competition.
He stood up to unfair and unbalanced trade agreements such as NAFTA,
GATT, and Most Favored Nation status for China. He has also introduced legislation to require the federal government to buy American-made goods, and worked to replace tax breaks for US companies that manufacture goods overseas
with incentives for companies that keep jobs here at home.

Russ fights to cut spending and has been honored by the bipartisan Concord Coalition and Taxpayers for Common Sense for his efforts to eliminate the federal deficit while protecting Social Security and Medicare. He has been recognized by the National Taxpayers Union as the ONLY senator to have an agenda that actually cut federal spending.

Russ believes our nation's number one priority is fighting terrorism, but that we
must get it right.
He strongly supported the attack on al Qaeda and the Taliban in
Afghanistan, but voted against the Iraq war because he believed
that it would detract from the fight against terrorism. Domestically, he
believes we must fight terrorism while protecting the very civil liberties
that make us American. Senator Feingold supported 90% of the
provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act, which contained measures to update
law-enforcement tools to help in the fight against international terrorism.
However, he voted against the bill because he believed certain provisions
of the Act represented a very dangerous infringement on our civil
liberties.

Russ brings Wisconsin values to the US Senate:
Russ, along with Senator John McCain (R-AZ), successfully passed the McCain-Feingold Act, the most sweeping
campaign finance reform
in a generation. The law bans the unlimited, large-dollar contributions that had a corrupting influence on our
government. In addition, Russ has
stood up against the backdoor pay raise for Congress. He sends his pay raise back to the US Treasury each year
(totaling over $50,000 since he was first elected). And by attending listening
sessions in every Wisconsin county - over 860 since he took office - Russ
has taken the inspiration of local residents back to Washington and has
introduced very successful legislation based on their ideas.
